You probably know by now that plants aren’t just a prop or an accessory- they’re living things scientifically proven to reduce stress, remove toxins from the air, cheer you up, and get all those positive, creative juices flowing. Combined with the fact houseplants have this magical power to transform a space in an instant, it's no surprise that a lot of us aspire to add more plants to our home.
But just like with anything new, if you’re at the very beginning of your romance with plants, it’s hard to know where to start. How do you choose the right plants for your home? And once you do, where should you place them for a maximum “wow” effect?
Lucky for you, if you’ve been dreaming of greenery and bringing nature in but aren’t quite sure how to begin, you’ve come to the right blog post!
From easy, beautiful beginner plants to creative ways to display plants indoors, our Loop Living ambassadors are sharing a few tips that’ll help you create a peaceful, plant filled home in 2022.
First off, we asked @styledby.rhonda, for her favorite plant & home decor tip. Here’s what she had to say:
“Plants are such a great way to add detail, colour, and character to your home. My favourites to style with are definitely trailing plants… specifically the heartleaf philodendron! Not only are they a versatile plant to style, they’re great for beginners as they’re super easy to care for. They look amazing in a hanging planter, trailing on a shelf, and watching them grow is SO satisfying!”

“We live in a small space and optimize storage by using shelving. We style our shelves by displaying books and objects with plants of varying sizes, shapes, and textures. I love how styling our shelves with plants adds character to our home but also makes our space feel more spacious by creating depth and height.”

“Before moving into my own home, I killed every plant I bought. I realized I was purchasing plants that were not for beginners. So if you’re new to the houseplant world and want to incorporate plants into your home decor, my number one tip is to start with easy-to-care-for plants. Learn about each plant you purchase and future plants you want to add to your plant family. You might want to buy every unique-looking plant you see at the store, but buying too many without knowing how to care for them may not end well. So instead of becoming discouraged early on, get yourself one of these plants, and you’ll be one happy plant parent: ZZ plant, snake plant, Pothos, or (my personal favorite) a Monstera.”
